Labor Lifetime Achievement Award

Roger Mayberry
Retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

Roger Mayberry began his career in law enforcement in 1973 when he became a deputy in the Los Angeles County Marshal’s Office. He was promoted to sergeant in 1985 and lieutenant in 1991. Throughout his 20 year career with the Marshal’s Office, he distinguished himself as a role model for his fellow officers. He exemplified the values of professionalism, integrity and commitment.

While in the Marshal’s Office, Roger was elected by his peers to the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Marshals Association, the Marshals Association of California, the Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, the California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation, and Southern California Alliance of Law Enforcement. Roger was ultimately elected president of each and every one of the above mentioned organizations. Roger also served the city of Norwalk as a member of the Planning Commission and Consumer/Rental Mediation Board. He was on the Board of Directors of the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations and served as vice president.

Roger still serves as the president of the Fraternal Order of Police CA State Lodge and Los Angeles County Lodge 1.

He was active in Sacramento for these organizations always working to improve the working condition, protection and benefits of the men and women in the law enforcement profession. Roger was selected to be the Marshal’s Departments’ Legislative Liaison in Sacramento which showed the support he had of his membership but also the department he worked for.

In January 1994, the Marshal’s Office was merged into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department where Roger had various assignments prior to his retirement in 2004.

During Roger’s 32 years of law enforcement experience, he has proven to be a problem solving, goal oriented professional and labor leader while dealing with all aspects of human resources and employee relations.

After his retirement, because of his knowledge and concern for the men and women in law enforcement and their needs in the labor arena, Roger was asked to come to work at the national level for the National Fraternal Order of Police, Labor Services Division. He continues to work in the labor field helping law enforcement across the country with their labor issues, conducting labor seminars, organizing law enforcement labor in right to work states and assisting law enforcement to gain the right to bargain in states that don’t have the right to bargain.

Roger Mayberry exemplifies the dedication of law enforcement officers throughout California who seek to provide the highest level of service and protection to their communities. We are proud to present him with The Golden Badge Foundation’s Labor Lifetime Achievement Award.
